I am a minority in today’s society
I am someone that the system wants to fail
I am characterized by the color of my skin
I am seen as a threat
I am looked down upon
I am FEAR
I AM BLACK
I am a mother with no husband to care for my kids
I am a father who doesn’t check up on his kids
I am a daughter with a child on the way
I am a son who roams the streets
I am a gang banger and a street hustler
I am a STEREOTYPE
I AM BLACK
I am a king
I am a queen
I am a ruler
I am a leader
I am POWER
I AM BLACK
I am the product of my accomplishments
I am a fighter
I am a survivor
I am SUCCESS
I AM BLACK
I am a student
I am a believer
I am a child of God
I am the future
I am change
I am HOPE
I AM BLACK
I am proud of who I am
I am in love with my culture
I am in love with my people
I am in love with ALL people
I am African-American
I am African
I am light skinned
I am dark skinned
I am human
I AM BLACK
I am not disgusted in myself
I am not ashamed to be myself
I am not jealous of anyone else
I am not hurt by anyone else
I am not going to give up
I am not WEAK
I AM BLACK
I am stronger than one could ever imagine
I am smarter than those who doubt me
I am determined to do what they said I couldn’t do
I am proof that God makes wonders
I am SPECIAL
I AM BLACK
I am here to make a difference
I am a positive influence
I am a role model
I am an angel from heaven
I am a GIFT
I AM BLACK
I am a brother to many
I am a sister to many
I am a mother to many
I am a father to many
I am a FAMILY
I AM BLACK
But not only am I BLACK
WE ARE BLACK!
WE come together as one
WE fight for a better future
WE make the world a better place for our children
WE struggle for equality
WE set the standard
WE are the mighty people
WE are all one in the same
WE are a culture destined for greatness
WE are the kings and queens of this society
